چکیده

It is well-known that the mean squared error (MSE) is an inappropriate measure for the difference between two images in many applications. For one such an application, edge-preserving smoothing, an alternative was developed which takes both goals into account: the preservation or sharpening of edges and the smoothing of regions. In this paper, tests on human subjects are reported which con rm that the new measures conform reasonably to visual judgement, and better than the MSE. Next to this, preliminary results are given from experiments in which the preference for sharpening and smoothing is investigated. It is found that images with a relatively low smoothing and a high sharpening are preferred.

Quality enhancement of Pelvis electronic portal images in order to improve treatment accuracy

Introduction: In order to reduce patient setup error in treatment field, portal images with treatment beam (megavoltage x-ray) are widely used. These images are acquired by electronic portal imaging devices (EPID). However, portal images suffer from insufficient anatomical information, contrast, and spatial resolution, because of the fact that Compton scatter is the main photon...

Multiscale Sharpening and Smoothing in Besov Spaces with Applications to Image Enhancement

In this paper we use multiscale characteristics of wavelet decompositions and their relationship to smoothness spaces such as Besov spaces to derive a framework for smoothing and sharpening of signals and images. As a result, we derive a multiscale generalization of traditional techniques, such as unsharp masking, while using the smoothness parameter α in the Besov space Bα q (L p) to provide a...

PAIRED ANISOTROPIC DISTRIBUTION FOR IMAGE SELECTIVE SMOOTHING

‎In this paper‎, ‎we present a novel approach for image selective smoothing by the evolution of two paired nonlinear‎ ‎partial differential equations‎. ‎The distribution coefficient in de-noising equation controls the speed of distribution‎, ‎and is‎ ‎determined by the edge-strength function‎. ‎In the previous works‎, ‎the edge-strength function depends on isotropic‎ ‎smoothing of the image‎...

Use of Two Smoothing Parameters in Penalized Spline Estimator for Bi-variate Predictor Non-parametric Regression Model

Penalized spline criteria involve the function of goodness of fit and penalty, which in the penalty function contains smoothing parameters. It serves to control the smoothness of the curve that works simultaneously with point knots and spline degree. The regression function with two predictors in the non-parametric model will have two different non-parametric regression functions. Therefore, we...
